Innovation

Yesterday Nic and I cleaned the garage. Well, Nic cleaned the garage and I "helped" before leaving less than halfway through for work. Two amazing things happened while cleaning the garage. First, Nic actually had a huge throw away pile. Throwing or getting rid of things is really hard for Nic and has been a source of tension between us because I throw things with abandon, sometimes I throw Nic's things which is never a good thing. But Nic got rid of some things that we have moved multiple times and never used. Seriously made my day or maybe even my week.

The second amazing thing that happened was this.

I came home from running to the shop to get a broom and found this contraption set up. We had a cabinet in the basement with a sink in it that we wanted to put in the garage for storage. It was just taking up space in our basement anyways. Nic called his dad to see if he could help him carry it out but he was busy so Nic winched the cabinet up the stairs. Yes, winched it.

In a set up that even my Grandpa Asche would be in awe of, he wedged a piece of wood in between the door, the grill and an ice auger, attached a strap to the wood and to the cabinet (which is probably 5' long) and winched it up the stairs.

After he got it to the top he went and pushed from the bottom while I pulled at the top and we got it out the door. Thankfully our neighbor took pity on me and helped Nic carry it to the garage. I have to say I was pretty impressed with Nic's ingenuity and thankful that the strap held!

Wow, I'm impressed with the whole thing, garage cleaning and the winch! Guess it's not just Grandpa that can rig up a contraption like that.
